The Singapore Government welcomes the initiative of the Singapore Red Cross Society to launch a public appeal for contributions for humanitarian assistance for the people of Afghanistan.
To support the Singapore Red Cross Society's appeal and as part of the international effort to alleviate the suffering of the Afghan people, the Singapore Government will contribute US$100,000, through the Singapore Red Cross Society, for humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
As Singapore and all other countries have repeatedly emphasised, the global campaign against terrorism is directed against terrorists and those who harbour them. It is not a campaign against the Afghan people or Muslims. We hope that the Government's contribution will serve as a catalyst for all Singaporeans to contribute generously to this Singapore Red Cross Society initiative.
