Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵSpokesman's Comments on the Fall of Baghdad

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore - $name

In response to media queries about Singapore's reaction to news reports on the fall of Baghdad, the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵSpokesman said:

"Fighting is not yet over. Still, developments in the last 24 hours have been swift and dramatic. We welcome the latest news that gives hope for a quick end to hostilities. The people of Iraq have suffered greatly. The sooner peace and order return to Iraq, the better it is for them.

The people of Iraq deserve the full support of the UN and international community as they rebuild their lives and their country.

Singapore will do what it can in the international effort to help Iraq rebuild and return to normal. This will pave the way for its eventual reintegration into the global community."
