The Singapore Government awarded 48 undergraduate university scholarships to students from ASEAN countries under the Singapore Scholarship Programme at an award ceremony held on 14 August 2006 at the Marina Mandarin Hotel. Senior Minister of State (Foreign Affairs) Zainul Abidin Rasheed was the Guest-of-Honour at the event.

The Singapore Scholarship Programme, in its eighth year, is part of the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP), aimed at sharing Singapore's experience through technical assistance to developing countries.

To date, 400 scholarships have been awarded to students from the ASEAN countries. Under the Programme, the scholarship recipients will pursue undergraduate studies in fields such as Arts and Social Science; Accountancy; Business Administration; Building and Real Estate; Computer Engineering; Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Pharmacy and Science at the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University.
