Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam visited Kyiv from 6 to 7 May 2015. Minister Shanmugam called on President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, and was also hosted to breakfast by Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin.
Minister Shanmugam and the Ukrainian leaders reaffirmed the good relations between Singapore and Ukraine and expressed support for deeper bilateral cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional developments.
At the breakfast meeting with Foreign Minister Klimkin, Minister Shanmugam invited the Ukrainian government to send its officials to Singapore under the Singapore Cooperation Programme to exchange experiences in areas such as anti-corruption and e-governance. Foreign Minister Klimkin in turn offered to share with Singapore Ukraine's expertise and experience in nuclear safety issues.
Ukraine was the first leg of Minister Shanmugam’s visit to Ukraine, Italy and the Vatican City from 6 to 13 May 2015. Minister Shanmugam left for Florence on 7 May, and will thereafter travel to Rome and the Vatican City from 11 to 13 May 2015.
