Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan hosted New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray McCully to lunch on 8 March 2016. The Ministers reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and New Zealand and noted the potential for closer cooperation in trade, investment and innovation. The Ministers had a fruitful exchange of views on regional developments where Singapore welcomed New Zealand’s effort to strengthen its engagement of the region, including through ASEAN and the East Asia Summit. Minister McCully also briefed Minister Balakrishnan on New Zealand’s priorities at the United Nations Security Council, where New Zealand is currently serving a two-year term as a non-permanent member.
Minister McCully is in Singapore on a working visit from 8 to 9 March 2016. He will also meet Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam during his visit. In addition, Minister McCully will deliver a lecture at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy on 9 March.
