State Visit of his Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, 19 to 21 November 2024

His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden received a ceremonial welcome and called on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the Parliament House this morning. His Majesty was also hosted to lunch by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

President Tharman welcomed His Majesty on Sweden’s first State Visit to Singapore. President Tharman and His Majesty discussed the strengthened cooperation between Singapore and Sweden in wide-ranging fields, including in research and development, transport, sustainability, and defence.

Senior Minister Lee and His Majesty reaffirmed the close ties between Singapore and Sweden and exchanged views on regional and international developments.

His Majesty also attended an orchid-naming ceremony today, during which a new orchid hybrid King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden was named in his honour. President Tharman and Mrs Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam will host a State Banquet in His Majesty’s honour this evening.
