The Research Assistant (RA) serves as the key resource person for political and economic developments pertaining to India, Nepal and Bhutan. The RA should read widely and proactively flag salient developments to the political team daily. The RA is expected to be able to conduct detailed research independently, when called upon.

 

The Research Assistant would be responsible for:

Political Work

  • Actively monitoring and flagging salient developments pertaining to India, Nepal and Bhutan, including but not limited to:
  • Major domestic political developments on national-and-state-levels.
  • Major developments in key political parties
  • Major developments in India’s foreign policy and its bilateral/multilateral engagements with key partners, e.g. US, China, Russia, Japan, ASEAN, G20 and BRICs.
  • Major developments in India’s policy on salient issues, e.g. climate change and G20.
  • Major economic policies of the national and state governments.
  • Summarise and/or translate Hindi documents/reports, as directed.
  • Attending and filing reports on any other events, as directed.
  • Supporting official visits, and events through protocol duties.

 

The ideal candidate would:

  • Have a university degree.
  • Have at least five years of relevant work experience. Past research-related work experience with other High Commissions, Embassies or International Organisations would be advantageous.
  • Have strong communication skills in English and Hindi, both spoken and written.
  • Be highly organised and detail-oriented.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with the stakeholders.
  • Be Independent, a good team player, and able to multitask efficiently.

A career at the Singapore High Commission as a Research Assistant will:

  • Be dynamic and engaging, involving interaction with the public and various stakeholders.
  • Involve occasional domestic travel within India and occasional international travel to Bhutan and Nepal for official trips, typically between one and three days long.
  • Allow for career progression, potentially to a supervisory role as the Visits & Functions Assistant or Executive Assistant in charge of the Political Support Staff team.
  • Provide opportunities to contribute to political operations and outreach events.
